  1. This is something I found to be pretty cool personally:
I don’t have the best internet connection (like… 100 kB/s), so I prefer not to open a post to find a load of images that’ll take minutes to load (I think Maken-ki! was the one I remember most). Though, I would have opened it, anyways (because most of the changes involved uncensored material).
Point is, I like how you have a short summary on the changes before the images. It allows me to read the changes, thus, less waiting for me. I would really love for you to keep doing that!

Of course, overall, you’re doing pretty well for this. Keep it up!

    • fixing this problem not hard, since we can compress the images, for fast loading, if you check my latest post that an example of it, my first 3 post didn’t have that, that why it load really slow.

  2. Thanks for the effort put into this. Really loving it since I hate having to try and find comparisons online. Also looking forward to more releases on the main site!

  3. I love this place, and I really hope the number of followers in the future grow!
I will continue to visit this page daily in the future, as per usual.
    Great job guys! :)

  4. I really love the site and it’s fine the way it is right now (I pointed out what I liked in the polls though). Only thing that’s bothering me is the poor english of some posts (of a certain author) – please work on it and/or maybe have someone check them before posting…? Keep up the good work anyway guys, love ya all!

  5. I honestly love this site, and I come here everyday just to check if there’s any new review. I don’t recall anyone ever trying something like this out, which is one of the reasons why I’m liking it very much right now.

Also, one thing: Uh… was there ever a way to request a comparison/review on a specific show? Because I could think of a couple shows I’d like to see reviewed. Other than that, this site was born from a great idea, and is managing to pull it off very well so far. No complaints from me, so just keep it up!

  6. PS: I just noticed that PRETTY OBVIOUS “REQUESTS” BUTTON ON TOP of the page, so yeah… forget what I said earlier. lol

  7. love you guys =P

the only thing that i see as “minus” so far is the limitation of let others to saves pics and the limitation of not being able to press on the right mouse at all (annoying when it come to copy-paste)

but as i said before, i respect your decision ;D

    • the thing is, it takes us really hard work and long time to do these, also we don’t wanna repeat to what happen with kirayamato site, if you know about it. However if there any image you want, just PM comment and I will get u the original version of it.

      • wow.. never knew about Kirayamato …

as for the pics case , i said that i understand your reasons : P

and about the PM comment thing.. if i will really do it.. you going to see ton of comments each week xD i perfer to let you rest ;D

  8. Actually there was a site similar to this and its still alive but the owner decided to turn it to a private site. The only people who can view his site are the ones invited. (I was originally one of his fans until he made his site private. Was not invited because I never really registered and commented in his posts)

The story on why he locked the site is shown in the link below.
    http://kirayamato04vr02.wordpress.com/

    PS
I know its also says “kira” in the link but it is not related to this site.

  9. I quite love this site, keep it up. It’s definitely allowed me to make some more informed decisions on what shows to pick up on BD–let’s face it, without the ecchi, a lot (but not all) of these shows aren’t really worth watching, and the censorship is getting pretty ridiculous. Mayo Chiki’s a good example of a show I personally thought was quite cute and actually a bit funny, but it was the ecchi that made it watchable and the TV version censored about all of it.

I hope the site continues and expands into the future to cover more series.

  10. i half agree with you there, though anyone have it own taste ofc, as someonw who love animes i want to watch them anyway, thougt yea i hate cen and really want to watch it unc as you said, but if i will do that i will delay alot of goods shows, though yea … in ecchi i really agree with you, but in shows like fate zero i feel like i really miss something. anyway my point is, that as true animes lover i will watch both versions because .. well i love animes ;D

    • Well, Mayo Chiki specifically I did watch twice, and I actually read a couple of the light novels (which are actually much funnier than the tv show because there’s a lot of back and forth manzai kind of comedy that’s almost totally absent in the show). I get what you mean though.

Also, +1 to you for the avatar with Rin on it. Rin’s my favorite character around, I love me a good tsundere.

    • I would do the same with more expanding if i can buy stuff like him, but i can’t since i’m stuck here in US, but maybe in 2 years when i move to japan

  11. I dislike the image “copy protection” and Javascript restrictions.

Are you worried that someone will take the images and:
    - make a website better than yours?
    - monetize your hard work as described in bastosnabata’s link?

Guess what? People already can. The JS restrictions here only deter casual “thieves”. I get that this is time-consuming work, but you’re dreaming if you think you can actually lock down the content.

All this JS serves to do is inconvenience the audience you’re trying to please. For example, in two browsers I can’t select text to copy/paste. Why? Probably due to the mess of Javascript and all the silly copy protection code. Oh, and disabling right click is so 90s.

A while ago I wrote a script to scrape this site, just for kicks. And I’m an amateur coder. I imagine it could be done 20x faster and better by someone who’s determined and more competent at scripting.

What you need to do is make your website so useful and webpages so easy to navigate that you become the go-to source. Stop worrying about copycats / website scrapers, because you can’t stop determined ones. Instead of wasting time on protection, invest it into improving the website’s usability.

Letting fans easily DL uncensored images would actually make your site more valuable. I’m sure ‘doom’ isn’t the only one wanting this feature.

You censored my first comment. How about this one?

    • As far as “You censored my first comment. How about this one?”
      My only answer is… eh?
Unless Akismet tagged you and it was mass-deleted with the spam, no clue what you’re talking about.
      .
      “audience you’re trying to please”
Our target audience is the one looking to see comparisons between the different releases. :)
We’re not trying to be another Gelbooru, Konachan, oreno.imouto, etc. If you want to download pictures, go there.
      .
“Instead of wasting time on protection”
Yup, that 2-minute search by whoever through the WP Plugins was surely harmful to the overall productivity of the site. :)
It really wasn’t that big of a deal nor was it some mass conspiracy to limit access to anime porn. Sorry that the mouse-over complicates your ability to download, but without that feature the site loses much of its “usability”; side by side comparisons just aren’t the same. And on the subject of…
      .
      “improving the website’s usability”
“Useful” as a picture downloading site we’ve already covered but any constructive thoughts on “webpages so easy to navigate”? Any examples you’d like to share or suggestions to achieve this goal, or was this just a rant because you can’t copy/paste or download pictures?
      .
BTW, there are already numerous scripts/programs out there to d/l all pics off a site (and anyone who can navigate to a cache doesn’t even need to bother using them).

  12. Actually, I’m offering sensible feedback as you guys requested.

“We’re not trying to be another Gelbooru, Konachan, oreno.imouto”
Is this really the main reason? You focus on reviews, so it’s a review site, plain and simple. Allowing downloads would not change that, or make this place *anything* like those sites. Your justification doesn’t hold any water.

What you’re doing is artificially limiting functionality – to what end? All the JS does is disappoint people like doom who would aren’t knowledgeable enough to DL the images, but would find *real value* in being able to download them. Usability .. providing value to visitors.. isn’t that what websites are about?

The fact is, if images display in the browser, they’ve already been downloaded to my computer. It really is trivial to get them. As such, the people who really want the uncensored images already know how to circumvent the ‘protection’. BTW, my comment that was deleted was a reply for doom explaining just how get those uncensored images.

Let me ask .. just how many web dev articles have you read? How much experience do you have? Do you really understand best practices in managing a website?

My core point is that all this ‘protection’ stuff is backwards thinking. It does nothing to protect images; it only makes the site less useful to visitors.

    • Thank you for your reply.
This second comment doesn’t come across as quite so derisive or condescending. (Intended or not, the “tone” of your previous comment was not in the spirit of “sensible feedback”.)
It still seems like the issue you have is that this site does not allow for the direct downloading of pictures.

“artificially limiting functionality – to what end?”
Our intended functionality is to compare TV shows to their BD releases, not to be an image download site (hence the reference to Konachan et al.).

Personally, I’m indifferent as to whether or not people download the images, but I’m not a Contributor so it’s not my efforts they’d be “taking”.
The people who do take the time to:
Search out and download 2 versions of every series
Setup and watch the show in 2 players simultaneously
Note any differences and the timestamp
Open both files in a program that allows screenshots at that exact timestamp
Upload those screenshots to the Net
      Proceed to write the post

They’re the ones who made the decision they did not wish to have their work distributed and therefore the No-Right-Click and Anti-Copy plugins were enabled. Their motivations are irrelevant but referencing back to your snarky remark from the first post,
“Are you worried that someone will take the images and:
      - make a website better than yours?
      - monetize your hard work…”

Who knows? Maybe they are cautious of someone taking their efforts and profiting from them. Is there something wrong with that?
I’d hazard a guess that 8thSin wouldn’t be appreciative of someone cut and pasting his excellent work to their own site and taking credit for it. Why should it be different here?

      Anyway, (aka tl;dr) :D
Thank you for your comments but we’re going to continue to disagree on “the point” of this site and any further discourse would border upon trolling or some silly flame-war.
If you’d like to make any suggestions as to how we could simplify the navigation or improve upon any other aspect of the site, feel free to submit another comment.

EDIT: Just found your third comment in with the spam and approved it… de-spammed it… whatever. :)
      Thank you for your suggestions

      • Sorry about the tone. You’re absolutely right; I was irritable earlier today. This is my final comment on this post.

“they did not wish to have their work distributed”
If content is posted online, it’s no longer private and distribution becomes beyond your control. Please help them understand this basic concept of the internet. Imposing JS restrictions is an archaic idea, and as we both know, pointless for anyone who understand how browsers work.

I guess you googled me. 8thSin probably doesn’t worry about someone copying his text, and surely realizes the futility of putting silly protections on it. 8th is such an authority in what he does, that it doesn’t matter if someone copies his content. People in the community know the true source and author. Even if someone does copy stuff, there’s nothing he can do about it. Thus, worrying about website scrapers (humans or automated scripts) is pointless. Most every major website has their content scraped, and do they bother trying to lock it down? No, they just keep producing quality work.

I keep talking about this because it’s messing up basic browser functionality in the 3 browsers that I tested. Examples:

        - Can’t select text on the page. Disabling Javascript had it working normally. What possible reason would you have to implement this inconvenience?

        - Moving the cursor with keyboard arrows in the new comment text box is .. screwed up. It’s just weird in Firefox 11 and Opera 11. In Chrome it’s better, but ctrl-a doesn’t work. Was this intentional?

Oh, and whoever recommended / installed the Browser Blocker WP plugin (I know, it’s no longer installed) .. shame on them. That was a bad idea for multiple reasons, not to mention another archaic ‘solution’. In case this was before you came on board, here’s a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/cdFLn.png

I wanted to help because I love ecchi, but forget that idea if you or your writers can’t grasp the ridiculousness of all these Javascript restrictions. I don’t care anymore about offering image DL links, but please, think about how meaningless disabling copy and right click are.

Aside from website issues, I really do appreciate the comparisons. I understand it’s a lot of tedious work to catch all those changes.

  13. To show that I’m not just ranting / trolling, here are ideas on layout:

    Front page:
    - The top banner, navigation, and image slider take up too much vertical space. We have to scroll down too much to see the first post.
    - Front page post image height should be made smaller (300px or 400px might be better)
    - Maybe: Implement a way to hide chatbox; all the animated GIFs are distracting.

    Single post:
    - Use headers like to say that the next bunch of screenshots are from a different ep. The regular text is hard to see in between images (because of margins, text size and color).
    - It’s really hard to see the new comment fields (name, email) with the current color scheme. Also, a nice touch would be to add CSS to make the field change color when it has focus.

Also: As someone mentioned, a certain author’s English needs work (read: run-on sentences). The Reviews PDF asks that writers be professional. What happened to that?
